The Romans were very skilled artists. Roman artists created a range of art including paintings, mosaics, architecture, theater, metal work, gem engraving, ivory carvings, and glass.
Sculptures
Just like their mythology, the Romans got the idea of their art from the Greeks when they conquered them. Sculptures in Ancient Rome were often made of marble. They were, and still are, the most famous type of Ancient Roman Art. Roman sculptures, unlike Greek sculptures that had no arms, were almost always full body sculptures. One of the only times that Roman sculptures didn't have arms, was when it was a bust.
Theater This is a painting of Ancient Romans in a theater group. Notice how there are only men. Theater is something the Romans took from Greece because they were interested in the idea of theater. Theater was only for the men in the Roman Empire. Women were not allowed to be in the theater groups.
Mosaics
Mosaics in the Roman Empire were often dull colors. Colors like brown, yellow, orange, and red. Some mosaics were colorful, but not all. Mosaics were made of little pieces of stone glued together. Mosaics showed pretty patterns, fish, and even people.
